Worm Bin with decorative cooper tiles
Handmade worm bin decorated with 3”x3” copper tiles etched by each student to celebrate the images of nature. The worm bin measures 16x42x23. Worms included! What is a worm bin? A worm bin is a structure designed to create compost using worms. You can use your compost immediately or you can store it and use it during the gardening season. The compost can be directly mixed with your potting soil or garden soil as a soil amendment, which helps make nutrients available to plants. Or, the compost can be used as a top dressing for your indoor or outdoor plants. Students in math designed physical models and calculated the surface area for the correct number of tiles as well as discussed volume. In science they constructed their own miniature worm bin and are very excited to see this larger than life worm bin come to life. This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the benefits of composting and share this learning experience with your child. Thank you Mr. Revello, Mr. Nowicki and Ms. Alonzo for all your hard work!

Gator Button Blanket
Team Mt. Rainier has created a contemporary interpretation of a northwest native art piece in the form of a button blanket. Our Gatewood spirit shines through this design including circling gator totems in red on a blue background with red and black edging, all accented by a wonderful variety of white buttons hand sewn by our team's students. Materials include quilter's cotton fabric, manufactured edging, cotton flannel backing and buttons. The finished product measures approximately 3' x 4' and is machine washable in cold water. Use this wonderful piece as a wall hanging, or a lap blanket to cuddle up with on our cold winter evenings.
